How was your experience at IIT Bombay during M.Tech?

My friend stayed at IIT Bombay only for a month but her experience was so amazing she couldn’t stop praising the institute. Some core points from the overall experience are: An orientation is conducted to introduce the basics of the MTech program for two days. Your seniors will interact with you and give you advice. A presentation related to the course curriculum will be played to deliver the necessary information. The first semester is pretty hectic as students are not used to the rigor and life at IIT Bombay. Students take courses worth 60 credits. Each subject carries 6 credits. During the first semester, students usually take 4 subjects with Software Lab being compulsory You are allotted 2 weeks to make a choice of 4 subjects. During these 2 weeks, you can attend lectures on any subject, interact with students and decide your elective accordingly. The institute offers some audit courses also wherein you have to just attend classes and not give exams. These are meant solely for learning. Attendance is taken through biometric ID cards. Classes usually start around 8: 30. The campus is so huge that most people rent bicycles or avail taxis that roam inside the campus. The class experience varies from subject to subject. All students have a good idea about most subjects since they have come through GATE. The faculty is really good apart from a few cases. Machine learning was taught by Preethi Jyothi, a P.hd from Ohio university. OS was taught by Mythili vutukuru, P.hd from MIT. Most of the teachers were cooperative and experienced. The most hectic part of IIT Bombay life is the culture of regular assignments. One is expected to write around 1000 or more lines of code each week and should not be copied from anywhere. They have software for detecting plagiarism. Strict action is taken if caught for plagiarism. Hostel facilities include double occupancy rooms with a decent LAN connection. The mess food is average and most students start going to the canteen after a few days. IITs have built a reputation among top universities and companies both within and outside India. The reputation is linked with the name of the Institute and hence a change of name will affect the reputation of the Institute. To make it simpler, IITB is famous even outside India but if its name is changed to IITM (Mumbai) then people who are unaware of the new name will not be convinced of the institute's credibility. Similarly, the admission application of an IIT Madras student will lose its credibility if instead of Madras the institute's name is written as IIT Chennai. Admission to my college was through the JEE Advance exam. To appear in this exam you need to qualify for JEE mains. Mains is conducted by NTA national testing agency First attempt in January and second in April. All information related to the application comes on this site https://nta.ac.in/. Yes, there are reservations for people. If you are eligible for the reservation you get a benefit of cutoff. The cutoff for reservation is lower concerning General category people. The admission process is taken smoothly so in my opinion the admission process is best

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose aerospace because it's my interest. Aerospace is a study related to aircraft, rockets etc. Mostly I have high physics knowledge which I love to learn so that's why I chose this course. Here we have a 1:14 ratio which is a good ratio compared to other colleges. Every faculty member has Ph.D. qualifications or Mtech peoples. Their teaching method varies from each other. Some professors are good at communication while others are a little less at communicating with students. The exam was on time and overall difficulty was medium such that students could at least solve some problems (of course if the studied). Overall, the faculty is the best

IIT BOMBAY: A millions dream

I liked the night life as there is no restriction and you can go anywhere you want at any time which adds extra 12 hour in your daily life as you can work or hangout at night too.,
I also liked the peer. IIT are not just about world class facilities but about the friends you make here. You will find the best mind in the country here and you really gonna vibe with them.,
Of course what i like is safe net IIT gives us, we can literally follow our passion and if we can't earn from that we can switch to job anytime and IIT degree gonna help you a lot in this.

Dislikes:
Hostel rooms here are a little bit smaller.,
Some old department building are too old and their infrastructure is not that good.,
Gender ration.. just kidding , you gonna find many female friends too in these 4 years of your college life.

As you all know if you want to get into the IIT's you have to first clear the JEE Main and then JEE Advanced. Usually application for JEE Main opens in decemeber and first shift takes place in january and then second in april or march. After the results of JEE Main , JEE Advanced application form starts form next day itself and JEE Advanced takes place in June. You can find more information on nta.nic.in about application. I think as JEE Mains happen in multiple shifts it makes unfair for some students , i know they do the normalization of scores but still it's bit unfair , I think JEE Mains should also happen on a single day for all candidates just like JEE Advanced.

Talking about faculty, if I have to define them, literally they are one of the best teachears you will find in India. Almost every faculty member is PHD holder and most of them is doing research in diiferent streams. Many paper have also published research papers which as a student inspires us. Talking about relationship with us it is so chill. They try to intreact to us in most informal way possible. Their knowledge in their stream is vast and they are literally the smartest minds in country. Coming to curriculum, i am first year btech student and my department is engineering physics. In first year circulum is a little bit chill. Of course you have to study to clear mid sems and end sems but not like JEE. My branch is bit hard as compared to other branches as it is research oriented branch but it is so intresting and it's fun to stufy it.

For admission to IIT Bombay, you are required to first qualify for JEE mains and get a good enough rank in JEE advanced. also, you should be in the top 20 percentile of your respective board or 75% of the CBSE board. The application form is available in the official website of JEE Advanced. Application fees are around 3000 Rs and the form comes about after the release of JEE main result.

The faculties are the excellent and top professors of India who have done very great things to teach you. The course curriculum at IIT Bombay is so flexible, it provides you with many opportunities and many fields of skills whatever you want. Exams and quizzes are taken very frequently and the difficulty level is on a little harder side.

To get into IIT Bombay which is one of the most prominent engineering institutes in the world you need to clear JEE Mains and JEE Advanced that too with a very good rank. Minimum 75% marks required in 12th boards. Jee Mains is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and Advance is conducted by IITs. Registration forms are made available by IITs and NTA on their websites. Mains is conducted twice a year and if you qualify you will be eligible to sit in one of the most difficult examinations in the world which is JEE advanced. Seats are kept reserved on a caste basis, and gender basis, for PwDs, Special Numararies, and Children of Defence servents. The registration process and admission process are very smooth. A one-week-long orientation session is conducted by the institute for registration and familiarisation with the IIT Bombay system. The campus is lush green. There was an All India competitive exam called JEE which I have cleared to get this course. Application form can be found on the NTA website, the fee of the same is 2900. A reservation holds a lot of benefits like the person with the same marks with a reservation will get a lot better seat than the one without a reservation.

I have a personal interest in Civil Engineering. It deals with fieldwork a lot in which I am interested. Our faculty is very nice and the gender ratio in our batch is good too. All the faculty are highly qualified one with commendable work experience.

There are various way to get into IIT Bombay. Most popular being through JEE advanced. To be eligible to apply, you must have given 12th boards and have scored a min 75% or must come under top 20 percentile. Clearing JEE mains and qualifying advanced is also a necessary criterion. Application forms are available on JEE adv/ NTA site... For college related forms, you have to go through Josaa site. To avail reservation, you must come under OBC/SC/ST/EWS. This is what government decides and you just have to contact your local government officer for further details. Making a preference list in councelling can be a bit hectic as there are more than 700 courses offered in Josaa councelling... This can be improved.

Interest in computer programming and maybe money??? Really don't have much idea but as IITB is a public institute... Data must be available online. Faculty, obviously are more than qualified to teach us UGs and teaching method is basically changing slides and explaining then. Many profs try to make the class more interactive but students mostly don't co-operate. Passing is easy.... You can pass with just 2 hours of study... My course started in August 7, mid September, there were mid sems, mid November there are end sems.

IITB, what many dream of

Likes:
There are a lot of students who have big goals in their life so being friends with them really helps in pushing myself harder each day.,
The campus provides with a lot of opportunities for excelling in any field.,
The campus in big and beautiful with all the required facilities and the seniors here are very helpful too.

Dislikes:
The hostel rooms for 2nd and 3rd year UG students are very bad.,
The competition among students is very high,
The grading in many of the courses is relative so becomes really hard to get a good grade

The entrance exam I appeared for was JEE Mains followed by JEE Advanced. The students qualifying for JEE Mains get a chance to appear in JEE Advanced, the rank of which dictates your admission to IIT. To get admission to the branch I opted for(aerospace) the cutoff rank was about 2100 in JEE Advanced. The application for JEE Mains can be done at the official NTA website with an application fee of about 500 INR and for JEE Advanced application there is a seprate website made by the exam conducting IIT in that year and can be easily looked up by searching on any web browser.

I chose this course purely out of my interest. The faculty: student for UG in the Aerospace department is about 1:15 All the faculty members have PhD in their respective fields and most of them have done that from a good foreign University. Apart from mindsets and end-seams quizzes are conducted generally twice each semester.

I like the peer group, all the amazing people I met till now is immense,
There is a lot to explore in the campus

Dislikes:
The Hostels. The pest issue has to be addressed ASAP, Im fed up of looking at cockroaches, lizards and ants and mouse running around at walls.,
The gender ratio is quite bad, very few girl students for such a prestigious institute as IITB,
I dont like how BIG the campus is, and we dont even get to keep electric vehicles and scooters.

One person should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Science stream in 12th is necessary, along with a decent score in JEE [Joint Entrance Examination] clear mains and a top rank in advance to secure a seat at IITB. Applying for the JoSAA seat allocation process which requires payment of the seat acceptance fee and its registering fees, googling its website would be helpful, JoSAA starts after the results of JEE advance have been released, I gave JEE mains and advance near the end of the 12th which everyone tends to do, After a few days of paying up the seat acceptance fee I got the mail from IITB regarding the further process of admission. There are no benefits of reservation except for a seat acceptance fee!! the admission process seems alright as it is.

I chose Materials science and metallurgy because I preferred it over environmental and didn't have much interest in maths! also what I was being offered at my rank also influenced my choice to a certain extent! Now after realising how great impact materials can have on efficiency and performance me content with my choice, I get to study from professors who are exceeding at the top of their fields! The insightful and inspiring message they convey through their teachings is very rare! Faculties are full of wisdom! ratio of faculty: to students is about 1:30. Faculties keep conducting research on cutting-edge topics in their labs. The schedule for exams is shared before the start of the sem itself, and regularly attending lectures with consistency in studies is enough to get a very decent grade in my opinion.

The courses curriculum is not chill you have to stay focused in the classroom. If the class participation is good then it is not heavy. Many faculty have their bachelors from iit bombay itself amd masters from foreign universities. The gamder ratio here is 4:1

the place in general, as IIT B is located in the financial capital Mumbai so you can have a lot of fun outside the institute too.

Dislikes:
the hectic schedule, people say once you get into IIT you're all set that's not the case you still need to make effort to a equivalent level.

the sole method to secure admission to this course and institution entails succesfully passing the entrance the JEE entrance exam. the initial step is JEE mains, which opens the door to various uuniversities and colleges. However, for entering into the prestigious IITs, clearing the JEE advance is imperative. the application forms are generally available around december, offering two opportunities for JEE mains. subsequently following both of these attempts, the JEE advance forms are issued. The cost of JEE main application form is set at Rs. 1000 for male candidate falling under the unreserved/Gen-EWS/OBC category,Rs. 800 for female candidate in the same category, and Rs. 500 for candidate belonging to the SC/ST/PwD/Transgender categories. Menawhile for the JEE advanced, the fee structure stand as follows: female candidate (all category) 1450, SC/ST/PwD 1450, all other candidate 2900. As an OBC candidate, the benefit comes only during the branch allotment process based on your rank.

I opted for this particular course due to my keen interest in chemistry. Additionally, it stand out as a relatively smoother and more serene option compared to the other courses available within the B Tech curriculum. At IIT-Bombay, the student faculty ratio is maintained at 14:1. the faculty members are extensively knowledgeable, possessing a minimum of a decade's worth of post-Ph.D. teaching, research, or professional experience, with a stipulation that at least 4 years should be spent at the associate professor level in IITs. the terms examinations were conducted punctually, and passing them wasn't overly challenging for those who consistently attended classes and conscientiously revised the material taught during lectures.
