CAT 2023 Latest Updates

CAT 2023 Mock Test link is activated by IIM Lucknow at Candidates can access CAT 2023 Mock Test for Non-Pwd, Blindness/Low Vision, and Other PwD candidates through separate links. CAT 2023 exam is scheduled for November 26 in 3 slots.

CAT 2023 Admit Card is also available for download on the official website. Candidates can download the admit card using their user ID and password.

CAT is a national level MBA entrance exam for admission to 21 IIMs, 8 IITs, and 1000+ other b-schools in India. It is conducted once every year by the IIMs in online CBT mode at 400+ test centers in 155 cities of India. This year, a new IIM (21st) has been added to the list- IIM Mumbai (earlier NITIE Mumbai). Also, starting this year, admission to IIFT will be through CAT scores.

Starting 2021, CAT exam now comprises only 66 questions- 24 from VARC, 20 from DILR, and 22 from Quantitative Aptitude. Out of these, about 75% are multiple choice questions and the rest are TITA questions (non-MCQs). The marking scheme of CAT exam remains unchanged. 3 marks are awarded to every question accompanied by negative marking of 1 mark per MCQ. 40 minutes are given to attempt each section.

Overall, the difficulty level of the exam is moderate to high. The topics you need to focus on during preparation for CAT VARC should be reading comprehension and para jumbles. For CAT Quant preparation, the focus areas should be arithmetic and algebra. For DILR preparation, games & tournaments, combination charts and arrangements (logical and seating) are the most important. Also, attempting CAT mock tests and analyzing them later is the best source to maximize your scores. Check CAT 2023 Syllabus with Weightage

CAT exam is not about attempting all the questions. It is more about attempting the right number of questions with accuracy. 100 percentile in CAT does not mean that the candidate has scored a full 198 marks. It just indicates that he has scored more than all other CAT applicants. Based on CAT score vs percentile analysis of the last 2 years, you need to attempt at least 45 questions with 95% accuracy to get a score above 100 or 99+ percentile. Taking CAT mock tests is way more essential than constant revision in the last few days for these reasons:
  • You can check your performance level- the number of questions you are able to attempt in the exam-type scenario. This in turn helps you to work on the speed and to know the areas that took more time to attempt than others.
  • Assess which section is more difficult for you to attempt: You can get a clear idea of which section is more difficult for you to attempt and which topics in that particular section require more practice.
  • Take an idea of how many attempts are enough in each section: This is one of the most important analysis of CAT mock tests 2023- to know the number of questions you are short of attempting for the desired percentile.
  • Compare your performance with other candidates who take the same test: CAT mock tests by various coaching institutes come with the advantage of comparative analysis of all the test-takers. This helps you get the much-needed information of where you stand in comparison to your CAT exam day competitors.

Expected Actual Score Range Based on CAT Mock Test Scores

Based on the average of the last 5-6 CAT mock tests taken by you in these remaining 30 days, you can use the analysis provided below to get an idea of your expected score range in the actual exam. For example, if you can score 50-55 in mock tests, then your actual score will likely be in the range of 60-75.

Mock Test Scores Expected Scores in CAT exam Expected Percentile in CAT exam
60-65 75-85 96-98
70-75 86-95 98-99
80-85 96-112 99-99.5
90-95 112-120 99.6 and above

To score 99+ percentile in CAT 2023, you need to choose the right questions and solve then quickly and accurately. We have provided some points for you to follow while attempting CAT 2023 to score 99+ percentile:

  • Sectional Cut off is an important qualiufication criteria: You should aim for getting above 95 percentile in each section. Attempt a reasonable number of questions (70%) in each sections to be able to clear the overall and sectional CAT Cut off.
