Rohit Sachdeva AIR 93 (Civil Engineering) | Making a schedule and breaking the syllabus into sections will assist you in planning your studies. Divide your time between the chapters and topics you want to spend more time on and which take less time, according to your schedule. To keep the studies from becoming repetitive, change the topics after every few hours of study. To allow time for review, try to finish the syllabus well before the exam date. Take a short rest in between. |
Abhash Roy AIR 1 (Electrical Engineering) | To complete the entire syllabus and avoid becoming over-hooked before the exam, one should begin studying for the exam as early as their graduation. Make a preparation schedule based on your free time outside of college. Regularly study and update what you've learned so you don't forget anything. |
Ashutosh Rai AIR 3 (Mechanical Engineering) | In any exam, including the GATE, mock examinations and sample papers are essential. It aids in assessing our level of preparation, our blunders, and the amount of time we spend answering questions. |
Divyanshu Jha AIR 8 (Mechanical Engineering) | A test series, which is widely available from many coaching professionals, is also essential because it aids students in analysing their exam temperament and teaches time management. |
Nihar Sahoo AIR 9 (Computer Science) | If you're studying a specific topic, don't forget to go over the things you've already covered. This review will assist you in recalling the ideas. |
- Begin Early- This will assist you in planning your studies and obtaining the necessary materials for the GATE Exam.
- Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern- Because your preparation strategy will be dependent highly on the exam syllabus and the number of topics, it's critical to understand GATE exam Syllabus and Exam Pattern.
- Know the previous years’ trends on the weightage of topics- Understanding the topic distribution in GATE question paper is a crucial step because it will enable you to determine the weightage of your strong and weak regions, allowing you to prepare appropriately. You can look at Previous Year GATE Question Papers to determine how subjects are weighted, and then focus on those topics that appear to have more questions and weightage in the question paper.
- Create a Study Strategy- Once you've familiarized yourself with the exam pattern and weightage of topics, it's time to create a comprehensive study plan. While preparing the study plan, keep the following points in mind:
- Set goals for yourself on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Remember to separate issues into sections that are challenging, moderate, and easy.
- Organize your themes in such a way that they don't appear to be overly repetitious.
- Give more weight to the topics with the most weight and the most chances of being asked in the exam.
- Make sure you complete a sufficient number of mock tests and sample papers, as well as keeping track of your scores using your graph.
- Break times and durations should be scheduled so that you stay energized even during long study hours.
- Practice General Aptitude well- Because the General Aptitude section holds a weightage of 15 marks, you must prepare well to improve your score. Newspapers and past papers from other competitive tests can be used to prepare for the general aptitude component.
- Revise and Practice through Mock Tests- The most significant aspect of GATE exam preparation is to revise on a regular basis. The revision will help you comprehend the topics or concepts better and increase your knowledge. It is also a good idea to take notes during revision so that you may refer to them later during the exam. Also, solve the previous 10 years papers, which would make a significant contribution to your preparation. Check GATE Mock Tests

People Also Ask
Ques. What is GATE score?
Ans. GATE score refers to the normalized marks obtained accross the different exam sessions. GATE scores are calculated out of 1000. Authorities use a GATE normalized formula to caluclate or assign ranks. This is done considering the difficulty levels of the different exam sessions.
Ques. How much GATE score is required for IIT Bombay?

Ques. What is a good GATE score out of 100?
Ans. A good GATE score out of 100 varies for each branch. On average, a score above 80 can get a PSU for the post of Executive Trainee while scores between 75-90 can get M.Tech seat in top IIT or NIT.
GATE 2024 Score Normalization Process
GATE 2024 will be conducted in multiple sessions with different sets of question papers. GATE score normalization process is used to calculate the scores of candidates taking into account the relative difficulty level of different sessions. This helps in standardizing the marks obtained by a candidate in a particular session.
GATE Normalized Marks Calculator
GATE Normalized Marks Calculator is a formula used by the authorities to calculate the mean and standard deviation of the marks of candidates in their respective sessions. Normalization of marks is done based on the assumption that the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the sessions. Since candidates are allocated sessions randomly, the assumption holds true for marks normalization purpose.
Suppose you are calculating the normalized marks of the jth candidate in the ith session, the formula used is as follows:
Here;
- Mgṭ = average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates with respect to all the sessions
- Mgq = sum of mean and standard deviation marks of the candidate with respect to all the sessions
- Mij - actual marks obtained by the jth candidate in the ith session
- Mti - average marks of the top 0.1% candidates in the ith session
- Miq - sum of the mean marks and standard deviation of the ith session
GATE Score Calculator
GATE Scores are different from GATE Marks obtained by a candidate in the exam. The marks represent the actual marks obtained by a candidate out of 100, while the GATE Scores are calculated out of 1000. GATE 2024 Result will contain both marks and scores of the candidate. GATE Scores are used for shortlisting candidates for the further process.
Normalization of marks is not required for papers that are held in a single session only. GATE Scores for these subjects are calculated from their actual marks. The formula for calculating GATE Scores is given below:
GATE Scores = Sq + (St - Sq) [ (M - Mq) / (Mt - Mq) ] |
Here;
- Sq = 350, score assigned to Mq
- St = 900, score assigned to Mt
- M = actual marks obtained by a candidate in single session papers or normalized marks for multiple session papers
- Mq = qualifying marks for general category candidate in the paper
- Mt = mean of the marks of top 0.1% or top 10 of the candidates in the paper or in all sessions for multiple session papers
