Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Akoth Jumadi, started out doing cover songs but in 2018 she started focusing more on writing her own music. She taught herself to play the bass guitar but following a need to connect more with her ancestry she started learning the Nyatiti, an 8 stringed Luo lute traditionally played by men. Her performances and songs are an elegant fusion of varied musical elements: Luo folk, afro soul, tribal fusion, jazz, taarab, benga, reggae, and hip-hop. In this recording she performs tracks from her debut EP “Ere Yo”, a collection of Akoth Jumadi’s experiences growing up, learning about herself and reflecting through her environment “Where is the way?”
